Graphene

We produce graphene — a super-material additive reshaping and decarbonising the world we live in

Graphene is both the thinnest and strongest material ever discovered and has breathtaking application potential. There is no other additive that can deliver such an impressive range of performance-enhancing attributes in one shot

What is graphene?

Graphene is a one-atom-thick layer of carbon, arranged in a honeycomb pattern. It is 40x stronger than a diamond and 300x stronger than structural steel. It also has unparalleled low weight (0.001% the weight of a sheet of paper of equivalent size), possesses huge flexibility, and is an exceptional thermal and electrical conductor.

  • Significant tensile strength

  • High thermal conductivity

  • Extremely light

  • Stable at high temperatures

  • Water repellent

  • Corrosion resistant

It was discovered 20 years ago and until now, has been described as a solution looking for a problem. Today, the problem it addresses is decarbonisation.

Where can it be used?

Graphene’s unique properties and compatibility with many existing materials - from plastics to ceramics to metals - means it has the potential to integrate with every industry in the world. It therefore presents a unique opportunity for businesses to boost the performance and reduce the carbon footprint of their products and operations.

For example:

  • Batteries that charge faster with improved efficiency and energy density

  • Tyres that last longer, grip better and improve fuel efficiency

  • Concretes and mortars with improved strength and faster curing times

  • Anti-corrosive and hydrogen impermeable paints and polymers

How is graphene produced?

Graphene has traditionally been made using graphite, through an exfoliation process. Graphite must be mined and then transported to the manufacturer’s location, which brings inherent costs and has vast ecological consequences.

Levidian makes graphene using cold plasma chemistry, allowing for the production of pure graphene from the simple input of methane gas.

We have been awarded Verified Graphene Producer status by The Graphene Council, recognising our ability to produce a consistent, quality-controlled graphene product from anywhere in the world.

Benefits of Levidian’s graphene

  • Low-energy, atom-up production with no additives or catalysts

We produce graphene from methane using patented technology - the Levidian LOOP

  • Unlimited scale with no batch-to-batch variation

Our process enables the efficient volume production of ultra-high quality graphene. Through our network of LOOPs around the world, Levidian is able to produce large volumes of consistent material to give you the opportunity to utilise graphene at scale

  • Carbon negative when produced from waste gas

Methane is one of the most damaging greenhouse gases. LOOP can take this gas and lock the carbon into graphene, while simultaneously producing clean hydrogen that can either be used or separated and stored
