Development Engineer

This role will require deep involvement in hands-on development activity across our decarbonisation products and R&D. Working primarily on our in-house production and prototype systems, the role would suit a mechanically biased development engineer who enjoys a varied environment, with practical application as important as innovative design.

Reporting to the Head of Development, you will be involved in many aspects of LOOP design, implementation, prototyping and optimisation activity, ranging from simple process sub-systems to complex production operations.

Accountabilities

  • Run in-house production operations and improvement projects to maximise efficiency, reliability and sustainability.

  • Prototyping, troubleshooting and solution development on in-house systems for roll-out to customer-based field units.

  • Lead experimentation on scaled-up development systems to define and refine the next generation of LOOPs.

  • Work with Engineering on detailed specification of system components such as vessels, piping, valves, control systems and structural elements.

  • Involvement in and contributions to HAZID and HAZOP.

  • Engagement with multiple stakeholders to understand practical and design problems from different perspectives and guide direction of the development programme.

  • Project management of internal development team projects, such as to ensure equipment availability for development work or achieve production targets.

  • Maintain detailed record-keeping and organised data capture to enhance data-driven analytics.

Candidate Requirements

You will be comfortable taking ownership for the development and optimisation of our process systems. You will have experience working as a mechanical engineer comfortable with the design and operation of gas process systems and general mechanical equipment such as vacuum systems, chillers, compressors, motors, pumps and automated valves.

Experience & Skills:

  • A strong drive for technology innovation with involvement in new concept development through to commercialisation.

  • A good level of practical experience in terms of mechanical and/or process systems design and operation such as gas management systems, HVAC, oil and gas or building services.

  • Strong analytical skills, with keen attention to detail.

  • Excellent track-record of applied problem-solving.

  • Ability to perform testing, build fixtures, assess and trouble-shoot equipment – using data analysis for continuous improvement.

  • Clear communication and a collaborative personality.

Education and qualifications:

  • A degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or similar.

Location and travel requirements

This role is based in our Cambridge, UK office. While you will need to be on site, we have a very flexible approach and understand that you might have responsibilities outside of work – let us know how we can accommodate your needs.
