Meet Oli Walker - Levidian's Production and Development Manager

Oli joined Levidian in 2014 and has played a key role in the team working on graphene production. Since then, his hard work has taken him from a Technical Assistant to his current management role.

As part of National Careers Week’s Green Careers Week, we spoke to Oli about his role at Levidian, his inspiration to work in the climate tech sector, and what advice he'd give to those thinking about a green career path.

“I joined Levidian as a Technical Assistant in 2014 and have been involved with the development of our LOOP technology ever since. I’m now in charge of the production of graphene and hydrogen at our Cambridge Technology Centre.

I’m a scientist by education but have always enjoyed working with hands-on engineering problems. I was immediately intrigued and excited by LOOP, which sits at a fascinating intersection of science and engineering. The potential to convert waste gases into valuable materials, further accelerating our transition to a net zero world, matched well with my ambition to make a positive difference.

I believe pursuing a green career is one of the most valuable things you can do to actively contribute to a better future. We all need to start acting, and acting fast, if we are to get out of the climate emergency. Dedicating your time, brainpower and energy towards a green-focused career is the fastest way to make an impact. The best thing about it? If you’re working with like-minded people towards a goal you all believe in, the journey is a joy! There’s high job satisfaction in this industry, and a sense of personal fulfilment that allows you to work at your best and achieve more than you thought possible.

My advice to anyone thinking about a green career would firstly be: Go for it! Secondly, find a business whose vision you believe in, with a team working authentically on something that resonates with you. When I started at Levidian, we were a small team, and I turned my hand to every task that needed doing to ensure we kept growing. Attitude is so important and demonstrating you’re a hard-working team player counts for so much when you have ambitious goals like saving the world! After all, we’re all in this together.”
